Spiritual Thought: Drinking of Your Cup

A few nights ago, my wife and I were reading the New Testament together before going to sleep.  We read this in John 18:11-
"...the cup which my Father hath given me, shall I not drink it?"
If you recall, Jesus says this to Peter, in response to him lashing out and cutting off the ear of the high-priest servant as they were coming to take him away.  It was a testament to his dedication in being faithful to the will of God; he was to suffer and die for the sins of the world.

This line really got me thinking, Do we know what cup our father has given us? Like our Savior, it is important that we too drink of our cup - that we fulfill God's plan and will for us in our lives.  I have not doubt that this includes being a righteous father and husband, because families are an important part of his eternal plan for us.

What does this mean for us?
This means, first and foremost, that when we live righteously and experience severe trials in our lives, we should have faith its part of His plan for us.  This is easier said then done, but once you have the faith necessary to believe that God is in charge, you know that he is aware of your trials and challenges an that no matter what happens His will, will be done.

Also, this means we should find out what God's will for us is.  We have many resources for this.  We should pray, read scripture, and listen to the what the Holy Ghost is teaching and telling us. I know that as we do this, we will be inspired on how to live better lives, to better know and drink of the 'Cup' our Father has given to us, and be better husbands and fathers in the process.
